Quality Rest: Event Recap

Rest is not what you earn; it is an integral part of your humanity.

Rec Room Wellness recently hosted a wellness session centred around one simple but often neglected need: Rest. The session kicked off with a breathing exercise to ground and centre participants. The facilitator opened with the question, “When do you rest?” Responses varied widely, including after a long day, after completing a task, and only when sick.

This set the tone for a fuller exploration of what rest truly means. The facilitator walked attendees through the attributes of quality rest, describing it as the act of ceasing all activity, with an emphasis on the depth of restoration and quiet it could offer. From there, the conversation expanded into the different types of rest: physical, mental, sensory, and social media rest, each carrying its significance.

The group also explored the barriers that so often stand in the way: hustle culture, overstimulation, and the persistent fear of falling behind. To close out that portion of the session, the facilitator shared practical tips for achieving quality rest, including the value of designating a specific time for it each day.

The evening wrapped up on a creative note, with a group activity that invited everyone to design their dream cosy space for ultimate rest.

Remember, rest is a skill, and you will get better with time as you exercise it.
