Comparison is something we all do often without realising it. At our latest Rec Room Wellness session, we gathered as a community to unpack this quiet thief of joy and explore healthier ways to see ourselves.
Our facilitator guided the discussion with empathy and insight, highlighting how comparison often sneaks into our daily routines and drains us of joy and puts us in a pit of self-loathing. Whether through social media or subtle self-judgement, it can distort our sense of worth. We explored how social media’s highlight reels tend to magnify other people’s best moments while hiding the challenging parts, creating a false mirror for our progress.
Participants learnt practical strategies to manage comparisons: building awareness of triggers, reframing others’ success as inspiration, practising self-compassion, and grounding ourselves in gratitude. The room came alive during the group activity, a creative rap challenge that turned reflection into rhythm, giving everyone a light-hearted way to express what they’d learnt.
By the end of the session, the takeaway was clear: growth isn’t a race, and peace comes from aligning with your values and pace.
